Who created the manga series Sailor Moon?

Naoko Takeuchi created the manga series Sailor Moon, which began serialization in Nakayoshi in 1991.

The story follows Usagi Tsukino, a schoolgirl who becomes Sailor Moon and joins other Sailor Guardians in defending Earth. The series combines magical-girl transformation, romance, planetary symbolism, reincarnation, and team-based superhero action.

Takeuchi wrote and illustrated the manga, whose full Japanese title is Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. It ran from 1991 to 1997 and was collected in 18 original tankōbon volumes. The manga’s success led to an influential anime adaptation, merchandise, films, musicals, and later re-releases.

The names of the Guardians are linked to celestial bodies: Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus join Sailor Moon early in the story. Pluto, Uranus, Neptune, and Saturn appear later, expanding the team’s mythology.
