Who created the "Gilmore Girls" TV series?

The creator of the Gilmore Girls television series is Amy Sherman-Palladino.

Sherman-Palladino created the comedy-drama, which premiered in 2000 and follows single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory in the fictional Connecticut town of Stars Hollow. She also served as a writer and executive producer, helping define the show’s rapid-fire dialogue, literary references, eccentric small-town characters, and intergenerational family conflicts.

The series originally aired on The WB and later moved to The CW after the networks merged. It ran for seven seasons, although Sherman-Palladino and her husband, Daniel Palladino, departed before the seventh season because of contract and production disagreements. The final season therefore continued without the show’s original creator at the helm.

Sherman-Palladino returned to write and executive-produce the Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, released in 2016. She later created The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, another acclaimed series known for stylized dialogue and ambitious female leads. Daniel Palladino was a major creative collaborator, but Amy Sherman-Palladino is the credited creator of Gilmore Girls.
