Who created the Big Mac in 1967?
Answer
Jim Delligatti
Answer
Jim Delligatti
Jim Delligatti created the Big Mac in 1967. Delligatti was a McDonald's franchisee who developed the double-decker sandwich at one of his restaurants in the Pittsburgh area.
The sandwich used two beef patties, a middle slice of bread, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and a special sauce. Its distinctive three-part bun separated the two patties and gave the product a recognizable appearance that supported its branding.
The Big Mac was introduced nationally in the United States in 1968, after the sandwich had been tested in selected restaurants. It became one of McDonald's signature products and eventually a common reference point for comparing prices between countries.
The product's name is also sometimes attributed to corporate marketing alone. Delligatti created the sandwich, while McDonald's adopted and expanded it as a nationally branded menu item. The Big Mac's national rollout followed its 1967 creation by one year.
