Who created the art and story for the Kingdom Hearts manga adaptation?

The story behind the answer

Shiro Amano created the art and story for the Kingdom Hearts manga adaptation.

Amano is a Japanese manga artist best known to Kingdom Hearts readers for adapting the video-game series into manga form. His work follows the games’ major events and characters while reshaping them for a medium without player control. The adaptation also uses a lighter, more comedic presentation in places.

The manga was first serialized by Square Enix in Monthly Shōnen Gangan. The first Kingdom Hearts volume appeared in Japan in October 2003, and Tokyopop later released the series in the United States beginning in October 2005. Amano went on to work on adaptations of Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II, 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts III.

Tomoco Kanemaki is associated with the Kingdom Hearts light novels, while Amano illustrates those novels. Yoko Shimomura composed the series’ music, and Tetsuya Nomura is a major game creator and character designer, but neither is the manga’s credited adaptation artist and storyteller.
