Who created House M.D.?

The story behind the answer

David Shore created House M.D.

Shore developed the series for Fox and served as one of its principal writers and executive producers. The show centers on Gregory House, a brilliant but difficult physician whose diagnostic work drives the weekly stories.

The concept was inspired partly by medical mystery writing and by the idea of a detective who solves apparently unsolvable cases. House’s name and methods also echo Sherlock Holmes, including his reliance on deduction, an unconventional investigative style, and a close friend whose name resembles Dr. Watson.

Bryan Singer directed the pilot and became a major executive producer, which is why he is sometimes incorrectly credited as the creator. Singer was central to the show’s production, but the creator credit belongs to Shore.
