Who conceived the original idea for Pokémon Pokopia?

Shigeru Ohmori conceived the original idea for Pokémon Pokopia.

Ohmori developed the concept while working on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. He considered new directions for the Pokémon series and remembered his early experience as a map designer on Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. That background helped inspire the idea of letting players create and cultivate their own Pokémon habitats.

Ohmori served as the game’s concept and senior director. His role connected the project’s creative premise with the broader Pokémon series, while Omega Force contributed experience in sandbox development and directed much of the game’s production work.

This origin story is sometimes simplified by crediting only Game Freak or Omega Force. In reality, Pokopia emerged from a collaboration, but the initial habitat-building concept is specifically associated with Ohmori.
