Who composed the score for Pixar’s first Cars film?

Randy Newman composed the score for Pixar’s first Cars film.

Newman’s music supports the film’s mixture of racing excitement, comedy, nostalgia, and small-town reflection. He wrote the score as well as several songs associated with the movie, helping give Radiator Springs a warm and distinctly American musical identity.

His song “Our Town,” performed by James Taylor, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Newman had already formed a long creative relationship with Pixar through films including Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and Monsters, Inc.

Thomas Newman composed the score for later Pixar films such as Finding Nemo and WALL-E, while Michael Giacchino scored The Incredibles and Ratatouille. Those composers are therefore plausible Pixar-related answers, but Randy Newman is the composer credited for Cars.
