The original score for the first Fast & Furious film was composed by BT. The 2001 movie, officially titled The Fast and the Furious, hired the electronic music producer and musician Brian Transeau, who performs under the name BT, to create its cinematic score.
BT’s music helped give the film a sound distinct from its separately released song soundtracks. His score blended electronica with hip-hop and industrial influences, matching the movie’s combination of illegal street racing, undercover police work, and high-energy car action. This is why the composer credit can be confused with the many famous performers featured on the soundtrack albums.
The film’s first soundtrack album, released in June 2001, was a compilation of songs by artists including Ja Rule, Ashanti, Limp Bizkit, DMX, and Faith Evans. That album is not the same thing as the orchestral or electronic score written for the movie. BT composed the score itself, while the soundtrack albums assembled songs used throughout the film and its marketing.
