Who composed the original score for Rocky IV? Vince DiCola composed the original score.
Released in 1985, Rocky IV uses a synth-heavy electronic score by Vince DiCola to give Rocky’s confrontation with Ivan Drago a distinctly modern, high-energy sound. DiCola had previously worked with Frank Stallone on the Staying Alive soundtrack, which helped lead to his recruitment for the Rocky sequel.
His music drives some of the film’s best-known training sequences, including the instrumental “Training Montage.” DiCola later composed the score for The Transformers: The Movie, making Rocky IV an important early feature in his film-scoring career.
Bill Conti is the source of the most common confusion. Conti composed the scores for Rocky, Rocky II and Rocky III, and Rocky IV still incorporates arrangements of themes he had written earlier. However, DiCola is the composer credited for Rocky IV’s original score. The film’s soundtrack also includes separate songs by artists such as Survivor, James Brown and John Cafferty, which are not the same as the instrumental film score.
