Who composed the original score for Disney’s The Princess and the Frog?

The story behind the answer

Randy Newman composed the original score for Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.

Newman wrote the film’s songs and instrumental score, blending jazz, blues, gospel, and zydeco influences associated with New Orleans. The setting allowed the music to move beyond a conventional fairy-tale sound and reflect the city’s distinctive musical traditions.

The film includes songs such as “Almost There,” sung by Tiana, and “Friends on the Other Side,” performed by the villain Dr. Facilier. Newman received Academy Award nominations for both the score and the song “Almost There.” Alan Menken is another prominent Disney composer, but he did not write this film’s music. The movie premiered in 2009 and marked Disney’s return to traditionally animated feature filmmaking after several computer-animated releases.
