Who composed the original Rocket League soundtrack?

The story behind the answer

Mike Ault composed the original Rocket League soundtrack.

Ault was Psyonix’s audio director and oversaw both the game’s sound design and its music. The original soundtrack was released on July 1, 2015, shortly before Rocket League launched, and drew heavily on electronic dance music and early-to-mid-2000s progressive house.

The soundtrack was not simply the work of a large outside orchestra or a famous film composer. It included Ault’s own compositions and contributions from Hollywood Principle, the electronic music group he formed with producer Elliott Sencan and vocalist Kayla Hope. Several tracks had begun as Ault’s personal music projects before being adapted for the game.

Players often remember the soundtrack as a broad Rocket League music catalog, but later updates expanded it with outside artists and special collaborations. Monstercat music, for example, became prominent from the game’s second anniversary update onward. Kevin Riepl also contributed later music, but he did not compose the original soundtrack.
