Who composed the original music for the TV series Lost?

The story behind the answer

Michael Giacchino composed the original music for the TV series Lost.

Giacchino’s score helped define the show’s mysterious, emotional atmosphere, combining orchestral writing with recurring themes for characters, locations, and major story ideas. His music was used throughout the series, from the opening episodes after Oceanic Flight 815 crashes to the later mythology-heavy seasons.

Lost also used popular songs and licensed recordings, so viewers sometimes confuse the show’s soundtrack with Giacchino’s original score. The series’ famous main-title music, however, was created for Lost as part of its musical identity. Giacchino’s work on the program was one of several major television achievements before he became widely known for film scores such as The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Up.
