Hurley’s real first name in the television series Lost is Hugo.
Hugo “Hurley” Reyes is one of Oceanic Flight 815’s survivors and is portrayed by Jorge Garcia. The nickname “Hurley” is so frequently used that viewers may overlook his given name, but official records and dialogue identify him as Hugo Reyes. He is known for his humor, loyalty, emotional insight, and long-running fear that he is unlucky.
Hurley believes the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42 brought him misfortune after he used them to win a lottery. The same sequence later appears in the island’s mythology and in the Swan station’s computer routine. His connection to the numbers is therefore more than a character joke; it becomes part of the show’s central mystery.
Hugo’s relationships with Charlie, Sawyer, Libby, and the other survivors give the series many of its warmest moments. He also becomes important to the island’s future after the main conflict ends.
