Who composed the music for Pixar’s original Cars film?

Randy Newman composed the music for Pixar’s original Cars film.

Newman wrote the film’s orchestral score and several songs, including “Our Town,” “Real Gone,” and “Find Yourself.” “Our Town,” performed by James Taylor, became one of the film’s most prominent emotional songs and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.

The soundtrack also uses licensed music associated with road travel and American popular culture. Songs by artists including Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, and Rascal Flatts help give the film a broad musical identity beyond its instrumental score.

Randy Newman had already worked with Pixar on Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and Toy Story 2. Michael Giacchino later composed the score for The Incredibles and several other Pixar films, while Thomas Newman composed Finding Nemo and WALL-E.
