Who composed the music for Despicable Me 3?

The story behind the answer

Heitor Pereira composed the music for Despicable Me 3.

Pereira wrote the film’s original score, continuing his work on the Despicable Me series. His music supports the movie’s mixture of comic action, family drama, and retro spectacle as Gru encounters his long-lost twin brother, Dru, and faces former child star Balthazar Bratt.

Despicable Me 3 also features songs and musical contributions from Pharrell Williams. That division can cause confusion: Pereira composed the film score, while Williams produced the companion soundtrack album and contributed original songs, including “Yellow Light” and “There’s Something Special.”

The score was released separately from the soundtrack album. The soundtrack arrived on June 23, 2017, while the original motion-picture score, containing Pereira’s instrumental material, followed on June 30. Pereira also composed the music for Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, making him the franchise’s recurring score composer.
