Joe Alwyn co-wrote Taylor Swift’s “august” alongside Swift and Jack Antonoff.
Alwyn was credited under the pseudonym William Bowery, a name used for his songwriting contributions to Folklore and Evermore. Swift later explained that Alwyn helped write several songs during their home-based creative sessions, including “exile,” “betty,” and “champagne problems.”
“august” was written by Swift, Antonoff, and Alwyn, with Swift and Antonoff also producing the track. The collaboration is notable because Alwyn was primarily known publicly as an actor, not as a songwriter.
A frequent mix-up is naming Aaron Dessner, who was another major Folklore collaborator. Dessner co-wrote and produced many songs on the album, but “august” is associated with Antonoff and the William Bowery credit.
