Who co-produced R.E.M.'s album 'Accelerate' with the band?
Answer
Jacknife Lee
Answer
Jacknife Lee
R.E.M.’s album “Accelerate” was co-produced by Jacknife Lee and the band. Lee also handled production and mixing, while R.E.M. received a co-production credit.
The 2008 album was designed as a sharper, more guitar-driven response to the band’s comparatively subdued 2004 record, “Around the Sun.” R.E.M. chose Lee after U2’s The Edge encouraged them to work with him. The band first previewed much of the new material during a five-night residency at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre.
Recording took place in short sessions in Vancouver, Ireland, Athens, Georgia, and Dublin, followed by mixing in London. The compressed schedule helped create the album’s energetic sound. “Accelerate” became R.E.M.’s eighth UK No. 1 album and reached No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200.
A common mix-up is confusing Lee with Scott Litt, who produced several earlier R.E.M. albums, including “Green,” or with Mitch Easter, a key producer from the group’s early I.R.S. Records period.
