Who co-created The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with Susan Borowitz?
Answer
Andy Borowitz
Answer
Andy Borowitz
Andy Borowitz co-created The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with Susan Borowitz. The married writing team developed the sitcom for NBC around rapper Will Smith, whose stage persona was the Fresh Prince.
The series premiered on September 10, 1990, and followed a fictionalized version of Smith moving from West Philadelphia to live with wealthy relatives in Bel-Air. Andy Borowitz wrote the pilot while under contract with NBC, and Susan Borowitz also helped shape the show's themes and story direction.
The show's premise drew partly on producer Benny Medina's life, but Medina was not a co-creator. Quincy Jones was a major executive producer who helped bring the project together, while Jeff Pollack later received writing credits on individual episodes. Those behind-the-scenes roles are common sources of confusion.
The sitcom ran for six seasons, ending on May 20, 1996. It established Smith as a television star and became one of NBC's best-known comedies of the 1990s, while the Borowitzes' creator credit remains attached to the original series.
