Arthur Rostron was the captain of RMS Carpathia during the rescue of Titanic survivors.

Sir Arthur Henry Rostron was a Cunard Line captain who commanded Carpathia in April 1912. In the early hours of 15 April, Carpathia's wireless operator Harold Cottam brought him Titanic's distress message. Rostron immediately ordered the ship to turn around and proceed at maximum speed through an area known to contain dangerous ice.

To gain speed, Rostron ordered the ship's heating and hot-water systems shut down so more steam could be used by the engines. He also arranged extra lookouts, medical teams, blankets, food, and warm drinks before Carpathia reached Titanic's reported position. Carpathia arrived at about 4:00 a.m., roughly an hour and a half after Titanic sank, and rescued survivors from the lifeboats over the next several hours.

Carpathia ultimately took aboard about 705 survivors, though historical counts sometimes vary slightly depending on who is included. Rostron was praised in both American and British investigations and later received a Congressional Gold Medal and a British knighthood.
