Who captained Rajasthan Royals to the 2008 IPL title?
Answer
Shane Warne
Answer
Shane Warne
Shane Warne captained Rajasthan Royals to the 2008 IPL title.
Warne was appointed Rajasthan’s captain and coach before the inaugural IPL season. He guided a relatively unfancied squad that included several young Indian players and international recruits. Rajasthan topped the league stage and advanced through the playoffs to face Chennai Super Kings in the final.
In the final on 1 June 2008 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Chennai scored 163 for five. Rajasthan chased the target successfully, reaching 164 for seven on the last ball to win by three wickets. Warne remained unbeaten on nine and helped steer the tense finish alongside Sohail Tanvir.
Yusuf Pathan, who scored 56 and took three wickets, was named Player of the Match, which can cause confusion. Shane Watson was named the season’s Man of the Series, while Rahul Dravid did not captain Rajasthan until much later. Warne’s role was distinctive: he was both the team’s tactical leader and its head coach.
