Who became the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champion?

The story behind the answer

Conor McGregor became the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champion.

McGregor achieved the milestone at UFC 205 in New York City on November 12, 2016. He defeated Eddie Alvarez by second-round technical knockout to win the UFC lightweight championship while already holding the UFC featherweight title.

Before McGregor, several fighters had won UFC titles in two weight classes at different times, but no one had held two UFC belts simultaneously. His victory also made him the first fighter to hold two UFC championships at once. He had won the featherweight belt from José Aldo at UFC 194 in 2015.

The achievement is sometimes confused with becoming a champion in two divisions at any point in a career. That broader accomplishment had earlier examples, including Randy Couture and B.J. Penn. McGregor’s specific distinction was holding both UFC championships concurrently.
