Who became the Foo Fighters' drummer in 2023?

The story behind the answer

Who became the Foo Fighters' drummer in 2023? Josh Freese became the band's drummer in 2023.

Freese was revealed during the Foo Fighters' livestreamed event “Preparing Music for Concerts” on May 21, 2023. He took over the drum position after Taylor Hawkins died in March 2022. Hawkins had been the band's drummer since 1997 and was closely identified with the Foo Fighters' live sound.

Josh Freese was already a highly experienced touring and session drummer before joining the band. He had performed with groups and artists including The Vandals, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, Guns N' Roses, Devo, and The Offspring. His background made him well suited to reproducing the Foo Fighters' demanding catalogue onstage.

A common mix-up is Dave Grohl, who played drums on the original Foo Fighters recordings and occasionally performs behind the kit. William Goldsmith was the band's drummer from 1995 to 2001, while Taylor Hawkins preceded Freese in the role.
