George Washington
Answer
George Washington
George Washington became the first president of the United States after the Constitution was ratified.
Washington took the presidential oath on April 30, 1789, at Federal Hall in New York City. He served two terms, from 1789 to 1797, establishing practices for the new office and helping define the relationship between the president, Congress, and the courts.
Before becoming president, Washington commanded the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. His military reputation and later leadership at the Constitutional Convention made him the leading choice in the first presidential election.
John Adams was Washington’s vice president and succeeded him as president. Thomas Jefferson served as Washington’s secretary of state and later became the third president, while James Madison became the fourth.
