Trevor Noah became host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show in 2015, succeeding Jon Stewart.
Noah began hosting the program on September 28, 2015. The South African comedian had joined The Daily Show as a contributor in December 2014, giving the network a chance to introduce his political satire and international perspective to American viewers before he took over the anchor desk.
Jon Stewart hosted the program from 1999 until 2015 and had made it one of American television’s most influential news-comedy shows. Noah’s appointment was therefore closely watched, especially because he was less established in the United States than Stewart had been when he started.
The Daily Show combines monologue comedy, edited news clips, interviews, and correspondent segments. Noah continued the show’s satirical format while drawing on his experiences growing up in apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa. He left the hosting role in 2022.
