Which young Madrigal can talk to animals?

Antonio Madrigal can talk to and understand animals. He receives this gift during his fifth-birthday ceremony, when the magical candle grants him a connection with the creatures living around Casita.

Antonio is Pepa and Félix’s youngest child and the younger brother of Dolores and Camilo. He is also Mirabel’s cousin, and he looks up to her like an older sister. His animal-filled bedroom reflects his gift, with jungle-like scenery and many creatures accompanying him.

A common mix-up is confusing Antonio with Dolores, whose gift is superhuman hearing, or Camilo, who can shapeshift. Antonio’s ability is more than simply attracting animals: the film presents him as communicating with and understanding them. His connection is highlighted by animals such as jaguars, toucans and capybaras, making his room one of the most distinctive spaces in the Madrigal home.
