Answer
The Inklings
Answer
The Inklings
C.S. Lewis attended The Inklings with J.R.R. Tolkien.
The Inklings was an informal literary discussion group associated with Oxford University. Its members met primarily at The Eagle and Child pub, known to them as the Bird and Baby, and sometimes in Lewis’s rooms at Magdalen College. The group was active mainly during the 1930s and 1940s.
The Inklings had no formal membership list, constitution, or published program. Participants read aloud from works in progress, exchanged criticism, and discussed literature, mythology, and Christianity. Tolkien read sections of The Lord of the Rings to the group, while Lewis shared drafts and ideas connected with his own fiction and apologetics. Charles Williams and Owen Barfield were also important members. The group’s informal character is why it is better described as a literary circle than as an official society or university organization.
