Hakuho won all six professional sumo tournaments held in 2010.
The Mongolian-born yokozuna captured every top-division championship that year, an extraordinary sweep across the January, March, May, July, September, and November tournaments. He finished 2010 with 86 wins, setting the annual record for victories in a professional sumo year.
The achievement came during one of the strongest periods of Hakuho’s career. He also extended a winning streak that ultimately reached 63 consecutive bouts, the longest in modern professional sumo history.
Winning all six championships is different from winning a perfect tournament, known as a zensho-yusho. Hakuho’s 2010 sweep refers to the calendar year; a perfect tournament refers to going undefeated in one tournament.
