Which Wes Anderson film premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival?

Asteroid City premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City was selected in competition at Cannes and had its world premiere there on May 23, 2023. The film combines a fictional television program, a stage play, and the story performed within that play, creating several layers of narration.

Its main story is set in 1955 in the fictional desert town of Asteroid City, where a junior-stargazer convention is disrupted by extraordinary events. Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, and many other actors appear in the large ensemble.

The film is sometimes confused with The French Dispatch, which premiered at Cannes in 2021. Asteroid City followed Anderson’s 2021 anthology film and was released theatrically in June 2023.
