Which Waffle House co-founder had worked at Toddle House before starting the chain?

The story behind the answer

Which Waffle House co-founder had worked at Toddle House before starting the chain? The co-founder was Joe Rogers Sr.

Joe Rogers Sr. entered the restaurant business in 1947 as a short-order cook at Toddle House in New Haven, Connecticut. By 1949, he had become a regional manager for the Memphis-based chain and had moved to the Atlanta area. That experience gave him practical knowledge of fast, counter-service restaurant operations.

Rogers met real-estate professional Tom Forkner after buying a house from him in Avondale Estates, Georgia. Together they developed a quick-service, sit-down restaurant concept, opening the first Waffle House during Labor Day weekend in 1955. Forkner suggested the name, while Rogers favored keeping the restaurant open around the clock.

Tom Forkner was the other Waffle House co-founder, but he was not the person who had worked for Toddle House. Frank Dorsa was associated with Eggo frozen waffles, and Craig Fugate is unrelated to the chain’s founding history.
