Which volcano on the Chile-Argentina border is the highest active volcano on Earth?

Ojos del Salado is the volcano on the Chile–Argentina border recognized as the highest active volcano on Earth.

The stratovolcano rises to about 6,893 metres (22,615 feet) in the Andes, on the frontier between Chile’s Atacama Region and Argentina’s Catamarca Province. It is also the highest mountain in Chile and the second-highest peak in the Western Hemisphere, after Aconcagua.

Its “active” label refers to geological evidence and relatively recent volcanic activity, although it has no record of a large historical eruption. The volcano has fumaroles, volcanic springs, and a small crater lake near its summit. Scientists sometimes distinguish between an active volcano and one that has erupted in recorded history, so wording can vary, but Ojos del Salado is the standard answer to this trivia question.

A common mix-up is Monte Pissis, another enormous Andean peak nearby. Monte Pissis is higher than many volcanoes, but it is generally classified as dormant or extinct and is not the world’s highest active volcano.
