McKidd provided the voice and performance for Captain John “Soap” MacTavish in the original 2009 version of Modern Warfare 2. His Scottish accent suited the character’s background as a member of the British Special Air Service, while his performance helped establish Soap as a more experienced and forceful figure than in the previous game.

Soap had been the mostly silent player character in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. In Modern Warfare 2, he returns as a voiced non-player character for much of the campaign and becomes playable during the final missions.
