Which Virginia university employed Georgia O'Keeffe as a teaching assistant in 1912?

The story behind the answer

The University of Virginia employed Georgia O'Keeffe as a teaching assistant in 1912.

O'Keeffe worked there after studying at the University of Virginia's summer sessions and after beginning to reconsider the academic art methods she had learned earlier. Her teaching experience formed part of a broader period in which she supported herself through art education.

She later taught in Texas, Virginia, and South Carolina before becoming more fully established as an independent artist. Her early teaching positions also exposed her to new approaches to art, including the ideas associated with Arthur Wesley Dow, whose emphasis on composition and personal expression influenced her development.

The University of Virginia is in Charlottesville. It should not be confused with the later West Texas State Normal College, where O'Keeffe taught in the 1910s and 1920s and which is now West Texas A&M University.
