Which viper has the longest fangs of any snake?

The story behind the answer

The Gaboon viper has the longest fangs of any venomous snake. Its fangs can reach roughly 55 millimetres, allowing this heavy African viper to inject venom deep into large prey.

Also called the Gaboon adder, Bitis gabonica lives in parts of sub-Saharan Africa, especially rainforest and savanna habitats. It is the largest species in the genus Bitis and has a broad, triangular head, ornate camouflage, and small horn-like projections between the nostrils.

Gaboon vipers are ambush hunters. They often remain motionless until rodents, birds, or other prey passes close by, then strike and hold on rather than immediately releasing the victim. Their huge venom glands can produce a substantial venom yield. The rhinoceros viper is a close relative and can look similar, but the record for longest venomous-snake fangs belongs to the Gaboon viper.
