Two-player multiplayer in the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater uses a split-screen view.
Split screen gives each player a separate section of the display, allowing both skaters to move through the same skatepark simultaneously. This was important for the game’s local multiplayer design because each player needed an independent camera following their own skater.
The original game offered competitive modes including Graffiti, Trick Attack, and HORSE. Graffiti rewarded players for claiming level elements with tricks, Trick Attack focused on building the highest score, and HORSE challenged players to outperform one another in successive rounds.
The game’s normal single-player presentation used a third-person camera, so “third-person view” describes the general perspective but not the two-player display arrangement. Isometric, first-person, and top-down views are not the standard multiplayer format of the original console game.
