Which video game console hosted the original Pokémon games?
Answer
Game Boy
Answer
Game Boy
The original Pokémon games were released on the Game Boy.
Pokémon Red and Green debuted in Japan in 1996 for Nintendo’s handheld Game Boy. Their design took advantage of the system’s portability and link cable, allowing players to trade Pokémon and battle friends using two connected systems.
The games were not initially designed for the newer Game Boy Color. They could run on both the original monochrome Game Boy and the later Game Boy Color, although the Color provided additional visual effects. Pokémon Yellow followed in Japan in 1998 and also appeared on the Game Boy platform.
International versions were titled Pokémon Red and Blue rather than Red and Green. Despite those naming differences, all of these first-generation releases belong to the same Game Boy era and introduced the Kanto region, the first Pokédex, and the original battle-and-trading formula.
