Which video game console hosted Pokémon Red and Green at launch?
Answer
Game Boy
Answer
Game Boy
Pokémon Red and Green launched on the Game Boy.
The original games used Nintendo’s monochrome handheld, whose link-cable feature made Pokémon’s trading concept possible. Players could connect two Game Boys to exchange species that could not be obtained in a single version and to battle one another.
The games were technically designed for the original Game Boy, although they could also be played on later compatible hardware. Pokémon Yellow was subsequently released with enhanced color support for the Game Boy Color, which sometimes leads people to identify the first games with that newer system.
The Game Boy’s portability was central to Pokémon’s appeal. It let players carry a growing collection with them and encouraged social play outside the living room, helping the series become more than a conventional single-player role-playing game.
