Which U.S. television network originally aired The Wonder Years?

The story behind the answer

The Wonder Years originally aired on the U.S. television network ABC. The network broadcast the series from its premiere on January 31, 1988, through the finale on May 12, 1993.

ABC became the show’s home after creators Neal Marlens and Carol Black developed the series as a family story about growing up during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The premiere aired immediately after ABC’s broadcast of Super Bowl XXII, giving the new program an unusually large initial audience. Fred Savage starred as Kevin Arnold, while Daniel Stern narrated from the perspective of the adult Kevin.

The network is sometimes confused with NBC, CBS, or Fox because all four were major American broadcast networks during the show’s era. However, The Wonder Years was an ABC original throughout its first-run network broadcast. Later reruns appeared in syndication and on cable channels, but those later outlets did not change its original network.
