The Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio in Abiquiu is in New Mexico.
O'Keeffe's Abiquiu house and studio stand in northern New Mexico, about an hour north of Santa Fe. She acquired the property in 1945 and spent years restoring it. The home became her principal residence during part of her later life and remains closely associated with the landscapes and architectural forms she painted.
The house includes a famous door opening onto a courtyard wall. O'Keeffe repeatedly painted this view, simplifying the geometric shape and surrounding adobe textures into compositions of strong color and form. The door is one of the most recognizable architectural motifs in her work.
The Abiquiu property should not be confused with Ghost Ranch, another New Mexico place important to O'Keeffe. Ghost Ranch was a separate residence and source of inspiration, while the Abiquiu site functioned as both home and working studio.
