The United States Army celebrated its 250th anniversary on June 14, 2025, as part of America250 events.
The Continental Congress created the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, making the Army’s anniversary one year earlier than the 1776 anniversary of independence. June 14 is also observed annually as Flag Day in the United States.
A major Army 250th Anniversary Parade took place in the Washington, D.C., area in 2025. It ran from the Pentagon in Virginia toward the National Mall and included soldiers, vehicles, aircraft, bands, and other participants.
The Army is the oldest of the six U.S. military branches. The Navy and Marine Corps also trace their origins to the Revolutionary era, but their founding dates and anniversary observances are different.
