Which U.S. city did Georgia O'Keeffe teach art in from 1916 to 1918?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe taught art in Canyon, Texas, from 1916 to 1918.

She worked at West Texas State Normal College, now West Texas A&M University, in Canyon. The town lies near Palo Duro Canyon, a large geological formation whose open spaces and intense light became important to O'Keeffe's experience of the Texas Panhandle.

During this period, O'Keeffe developed a personal approach to abstraction while teaching and making art. She later returned to Texas in 1918 to teach at the University of Texas at Austin, where she remained until 1927. Her Texas years are therefore divided between Canyon and Austin rather than being one uninterrupted teaching appointment.

Canyon is sometimes overlooked because O'Keeffe is more strongly associated with New Mexico. Yet the Texas landscape was a major early source of inspiration. She later said that the country around Palo Duro Canyon made a deep impression on her, helping shape the bold forms and color contrasts that became characteristic of her work.
