Which US Billboard chart gave Taylor Swift’s “august” a peak of No. 5?

Taylor Swift’s “august” peaked at No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.

The song reached that position when Folklore arrived in 2020 and remained on the chart for 20 weeks. The ranking reflects the song’s classification within Billboard’s rock and alternative tracking system, where its atmospheric guitars, strings, and alternative-pop presentation fit the broader format.

This result is distinct from the Billboard Hot 100, the general US singles chart. “august” peaked at No. 23 on the Hot 100, so the two rankings should not be treated as interchangeable. Chart titles matter because each Billboard list measures a different musical market or format.

The song’s later August streaming revival added seasonal attention but did not change the original distinction between its chart peaks. Its No. 5 placement belongs specifically to Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, not to the overall Hot 100.
