Which university employed Georgia O'Keeffe as a teacher in Charlottesville from 1912 to 1914?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe taught at the University of Virginia from 1912 to 1914.

After studying art and working in commercial design, O'Keeffe returned to teaching as a way to support herself. At the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, she taught art during the summers and encountered the landscape of the Blue Ridge region. The job followed her studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she worked with Arthur Wesley Dow.

Dow's approach encouraged design based on line, color, and composition rather than strict imitation. That influence helped O'Keeffe move away from the academic realism she had learned earlier. Her experiments with abstraction soon produced the charcoal drawings that Alfred Stieglitz exhibited in New York.

O'Keeffe later taught at West Texas State Normal College and served as head of the art department there. The University of Virginia appointment is therefore an early teaching post, not the institution most closely associated with her later classroom career.
