Which university did Mark Zuckerberg attend before dropping out?

The story behind the answer

Mark Zuckerberg attended Harvard University, specifically Harvard College, before dropping out to work on Facebook. He enrolled in 2002 and left during his second year after the social network began expanding beyond its original campus audience.

Zuckerberg launched TheFacebook on February 4, 2004, while living in Harvard’s Kirkland House. The site initially required a Harvard.edu email address, making it a campus directory and social-networking service before it became a global platform.

His co-founders included Harvard classmates Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, Andrew McCollum and Chris Hughes. As membership grew, Zuckerberg and Moskovitz expanded the service to other universities, including Columbia, New York University, Stanford, Dartmouth, Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania, Brown and Yale.

A common mix-up is treating Stanford as Zuckerberg’s university because Facebook soon moved its operations to Palo Alto, California, and Stanford was among the early expansion campuses. Zuckerberg did not attend Yale, MIT or Stanford; he left Harvard without completing his degree. Harvard later awarded him an honorary degree in 2017.
