Which university did Georgia O’Keeffe attend from 1905 to 1906?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O’Keeffe attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1905 to 1906.

She enrolled at the school after graduating from Chatham Episcopal Institute in Virginia. The Art Institute provided traditional academic training in drawing and painting, including instruction based on observation and established art-school methods.

O’Keeffe later studied at the Art Students League in New York, where she won a scholarship and received instruction from William Merritt Chase. She also attended the University of Virginia’s summer sessions and later taught art in Texas and South Carolina. These stages are sometimes merged in short biographies, but they were separate parts of her education.

Her later work moved decisively away from strict academic realism. The Chicago period nevertheless belongs to the formal training that preceded her experiments with abstraction and her influential New Mexico paintings.
