Which UFC event was the first to take place in Canada?

The story behind the answer

UFC 83 was the first UFC event to take place in Canada.

The event was held on April 19, 2008, at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. Its main event featured Georges St-Pierre defending the UFC welterweight championship against Matt Serra. St-Pierre won by technical knockout between the second and third rounds after Serra was unable to continue because of accumulated strikes.

UFC 83 followed the UFC’s expansion beyond the United States and became a landmark event for Canadian mixed martial arts. It drew a large crowd in Montreal and showcased St-Pierre, one of the country’s most successful combat-sports athletes. Later Canadian UFC events included UFC 97, UFC 115, and UFC 129, but UFC 83 was the promotion’s first visit to Canada.
