UFC 229 set the UFC’s official pay-per-view purchase record.
The event took place on October 6, 2018, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Its main event featured lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defending his title against Conor McGregor. UFC 229 was reported to have generated approximately 2.4 million pay-per-view buys, the largest total in UFC history.
Nurmagomedov won by fourth-round submission with a neck crank. The bout attracted enormous attention because of the fighters’ intense rivalry and the long buildup surrounding McGregor’s return to the UFC.
The event is also remembered for a post-fight brawl that began after Nurmagomedov left the Octagon and confronted McGregor’s team. Although UFC pay-per-view figures are sometimes reported differently by various sources, UFC 229 remains the promotion’s official record holder for purchases.
