Which two writers are credited for Taylor Swift’s “august”?

Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff are credited as the writers of “august.”

Antonoff created the instrumental first and sent it to Swift, who wrote the lyrics quickly and intuitively. Their collaboration was part of the broader Folklore process, in which Swift developed fictional characters and settings while working remotely during quarantine.

Swift and Antonoff had already collaborated on songs from 1989, Reputation, and Lover. For “august,” they also shared producer credit, while Joe Alwyn contributed to the production. The writing credit and production credit are therefore related but not identical.

Another common mix-up involves Aaron Dessner, who co-wrote and produced many other Folklore tracks. Dessner was central to the album’s creation, but he is not credited as a writer of “august.” The song’s writing team is specifically Swift and Antonoff.
