Which two songwriters are credited with writing Taylor Swift’s “august”?

Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff are credited as the songwriters of “august.”

Antonoff first produced the instrumental idea and sent it to Swift. According to accounts of the song’s creation, Swift wrote the lyrics quickly and intuitively after receiving the music, helping give the track its flowing, impressionistic narrative.

Swift and Antonoff had already worked together on earlier albums including 1989, Reputation, and Lover. Their Folklore collaboration adopted a quieter palette, emphasizing atmosphere and fictional storytelling over the brighter pop production associated with some of Swift’s previous releases.

Joe Alwyn is also credited as a producer on the song, but he is not listed as one of its songwriters. Aaron Dessner contributed extensively to Folklore, yet he is not a credited writer of “august.”
