Which trophy is awarded to the winner of the Six Nations Championship in rugby union?

The story behind the answer

The winner of the Six Nations Championship in rugby union receives the Six Nations Championship trophy.

The competition brings together England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales. It evolved from the Home Nations Championship, which began in 1883, and later included France before becoming the modern Six Nations when Italy joined in 2000.

The championship trophy is awarded to the team with the best overall record after its five matches. This is separate from the many individual trophies contested within the tournament, such as the Calcutta Cup between England and Scotland and the Millennium Trophy between England and Ireland.

A related distinction is the Grand Slam: a team wins that accolade by defeating every other participant in the same championship. The overall championship and the Grand Slam are therefore not identical achievements.
