Which trio created the original Frasier sitcom?
Answer
David Angell, Peter Casey, David Lee
Answer
David Angell, Peter Casey, David Lee
The original Frasier sitcom was created by David Angell, Peter Casey, and David Lee. The three writers and producers had worked together on Cheers before developing Frasier as a new series for Kelsey Grammer.
Their first ideas for Grammer after Cheers did not involve Frasier Crane. They proposed a separate comedy about a wealthy, paraplegic publisher, but Paramount Television rejected that concept. The studio encouraged them to continue the popular psychiatrist character instead. To keep the spin-off from feeling like a simple continuation of Cheers, they moved Frasier away from Boston and built the series around his work, family, and friendships in Seattle.
Angell, Casey, and Lee also shaped the show’s central family structure. Frasier’s father Martin and brother Niles became essential to the series, while the radio-station setting supplied its workplace ensemble. The trio had already formed Grub Street Productions and produced the show through that company. Christopher Lloyd, Joe Keenan, and others later served as important writers or showrunners, but they were not the original creating trio. The series premiered on NBC in 1993 and ran for 264 episodes.
